Hey Inquisitive writers! So, I have decided to post yet another poem on my blog. I was trying to come up with an idea for a poem, and I tried something, and it didn’t seem to work. Then, inspiration struck me like lightening.
So, here’s a little background on the actual poem. 2012 was a good year to me – a good year for pop music, too. It occurred 3 years before starting my blog, which is a long time, since I have been blogging for almost 3 years. I always think about the past and how the 2010s are almost over (what?). Soon, we’ll be 20% into the century! I also think about how popular music has changed, how technology has advanced, trends, tv shows, etc.
To brush on the music topic, I feel most popular music has somewhat deteriorated from before, but that’s just my opinion. I feel like pop music kind of exploded from 2009-2013, but the early/mid 2000s still has music that makes me nostalgic. Maybe I favor 2000s music more because I attach more good memories with them than most songs right now. But that’s just me. Ok, here’s the poem down below↓
You were so 6 years ago (what?)
Yet I think about you
still into you,
still stuck in that time,
You made me believe that
starships were meant to fly,
then you shot them down
Locked me out of heaven,
though you’re still a part of me,
and you don’t even know it
I’m still stuck in the past
glad you stopped by
I say I survived you,
but you know that’s not the truth
I say I gasped for air,
but you gave me oxygen
I say you played me,
but we created the game together
New people came,
new years came
More memories without you
I know you’re doing alright,
but what about me?
You shaped me
into who I am today
Where would I be without you?
Line 3: Wide Awake, Katy Perry
Line 4: Still Into You, Paramore
Line 5: Payphone, Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa
Line 7: Starships, Nicki Minaj
Line 9: Locked Out Of Heaven, Bruno Mars
Oh yes, I also have included some song lyrics for this song, because I recall music being a big part of my life in 2012, and I remember these songs from 2012 or around the time. For the poem, I have penned it in a relationship-like state, because it would be easier for me to write it. I have also included a reference from when the world was suppose to end in 2012, when I wrote “I say I survived you, but but you know that’s not the truth”
Was 2012 a good year for you? Do you feel like time is going by too fast? What was the best year of your life?
*Also here are some more poems I have written*
