Hey Inquisitive writers! So today I will be writing about how to know if you want to blog or vlog. I think they’re both a great way to express yourself and your passions, but they do contrast a bit.
**These are just my opinions, you don’t have to follow them. I am only suggesting them**
1: Do you want to be anonymous?
If you want to stay anonymous or just don’t feel like talking to a camera, then blogging would be more of a good option for you. In another sense, I feel like when you vlog you connect more with your audience because it’s as if you are talking to them. Though if you like talking aloud more than typing vlogging is more for you.
2: Do you want website variety?
What I mean by this is if you want to blog, there is more of a variety of websites you can choose to create your blog, such as WordPress.com, WordPress.org, Wix, Squarespace, Blogger, and more. I started on WordPress.com, then I switched to a self-hosted site. Youtube is the main vlogging platform, which most vloggers are on. So if you want to vlog, Youtube would be the only site I’d turn to. On the other hand, there are more options for people who want to blog on the internet (by the way I recommend the WordPress community of sites 🙂
3: Are you more comfortable editing videos or designing a website?
Even though not all Youtubers edit their videos, it is a common trend in many vloggers out there. To me, that’s similar to designing your own website. Though, if you are just getting started on blogging, I’d recommend a simply blogging platform like WordPress.com, as you don’t have to design your website as extensively if you were to go self-hosted. I personally like picking out themes and images for my blog posts, but it does take time. But if you really aren’t that internet savvy, I’d get someone to design your blog for you.
Though you can put a header image on your Youtube channel that you can design to customize it. It’s all about what you’re more comfortable with. I, for one, don’t even know how to use iMovie or Garageband. So I stick with blogging 😂
But even if you choose blogging or vlogging, there are some similarities
- Tags on Youtube, tags and awards on blogging (mainly on WordPress)
- Thumbnails on Youtube videos, header images on blog posts
- You can have a sponsored post on Youtube and a sponsored post on your blog
- Youtube is free to use, and WordPress.com is free (though not all blogging platforms are free to use)
But who says you can’t do both? Of course anyone could do both – many people do! But I wrote this post for people who don’t want to or don’t have time to do both.
Hence, writing online or talking to a camera are both forms of voicing your opinion online and connecting with either one or one thousands viewers. Whatever you choose, have fun with it!
